Dad bought a book of crock pot recipes and tried one of them tonight. It wasn't too bad.

Basically, it had a lot of the ingredients you'd put in a goulash, only it was more like a chili. Then, we put it over noodles. It looked disgusting, but was pretty tasty.

I'm thinking that since Dad's got this new recipe book and he only cooks on weekends, he should be set for dinner ideas until next spring when it gets too warm.

Then he'll have to buy a new book.

I'm okay with that.

There's an episode of Family Guy in which Stewie refers to something his mother cooked as a "retched culinary abortion". I made that for dinner tonight.

It was supposed to be Beef Taco Skillet. It ended up being more like Beef Taco Soup. We had twice as much ground beef, so I figured it would make sense to double all of the other ingredients.

Didn't quite work out that way.

It did thicken up some, but it looked nothing like the picture with the recipe.

Everybody liked it though. It tasted good.

Maybe next time I'll follow the instructions a little more closely, though.

Tomorrow is my Papa's birthday. At his age he's not much for celebrating, but Carrie and I are going to make him lunch and take it down to him. I'll make a couple of mushroom and garlic pizzas right before we head down.

But, tonight, I made pumpkin muffins for him.

Now, while I'm a reasonably good cook, I'm a lousy baker. I can fuck up cookies that come out of tube, no shit. Carrie insisted that we have some sort of baked good, as it is a birthday, and since I've had good luck with pumpkin muffins from a box in the past (I can also do cheesecake brownies from a box and pumpkin pasties from a tube/can) I thought that was the safest bet.

I'm happy to report that despite a last minute rush to the store for canola oil, they came out okay. Now, I'm going to finish them off with a nice topping of cheesecaking icing.

There is no way this will end without a big mess.

ETA: Frosted the muffins without making a huge mess, but Carrie felt the need to watch me, waiting for the impending "disaster".

Me: Don't you have a show to watch?
Carrie: Nope. You caught me in my between shows doin' stuff time.

No disaster for her.

I haven't been grocery shopping for three weeks. I'm going tomorrow. The list is looooong. I am not going to enjoy this.

It's actually pretty easy for me to make a list just because I basically cook the same things all the time. I keep thinking I should branch out and try new things, but I put it off. Next thing I know, I'm making the same old list and there's nothing new on it.

If anyone has any simple recipes they'd like to throw my way, please do. I'm definitely looking to try new things, I'm just too lazy to find them myself.

And keep in mind that when I say "simple" I mean I once burnt macaronicheese. I've come a long way, but I'm no gourmet.

I think I may make double decker tacos tomorrow night and then fish tacos Friday for SGA. In the winter, SGA night is steak bowls. For the summer, however, I think fish tacos are better.

And yes, tacos two nights in a row. Different kinds of tacos, though. And I find it's best this way because that bagged shredded lettuce browns really quickly after I open it.
