I watched Castle. I liked it. Due to my enjoying the first episode and the fact that it stars Nathan Fillion, it will probably be cancelled.
Since it's the first episode, I'm going to play it safe and consider everything a spoiler, though I don't think I'll be talking about the actual plot much (and I'm not the go to guy for this kind of thing). But, I live in a world that thought the boat sinking in Titanic was a spoiler, so better safe than descended upon by screeching harpies of indignation.
Nathan Fillion pulls off the likeable skeev really well. The Castle character has the potential to be totally off putting (the arrogance, the come ons), but it's balanced so nicely with the wit and the relationship with his kid that I was laughing instead of eye-rolling.
The actress playing Beckett, Stana something or other (if this becomes an obsession, I will learn names, lemme alone), has some great facial expressions and does a great job of playing a hardcore, stick-up-the-ass detective without coming across as a total bitch.
Castle's mom and daughter and Beckett's partners are winners, too.
The crime solving itself was fun to watch, the way it was done using the cop experience and the writing experience. I was digging it.
The only problem I have is the whole Castle/Beckett thing. I know what they're playing at, but I'm worried that it's something that's going to get real old real fast. And I'm trying to view that objectively and not as someone who doesn't like kissing in their violence.
In conclusion, I'm watching next week. It's not a bad way to spend a Monday night, really.
