So far I've had two people bug me to get a myspace account.

Andi, who bugged me most recently, gave me her account address awhile ago.

Tonight I decided to finally check it out.

My first reaction was "AAAAHHHHHHHHH".

Laws, there's a lot of sparkly shit on there. Is all that really necessary?

Then I looked at her friends and saw people I knew. Then I looked at one of their pages and then their friends and the next thing I knew, I had just found a whole bunch of people I thought had dropped off the face of the planet (and some I had just really hoped had).

JG had told me he found a bunch of people he'd gone to school with and reconnected with them.

I don't want to reconnect with a lot of those people.

No, I'll just be unhip and stick to LJ, I think.

Seriously, though, what's the deal with all the sparkly shit?

MySpace is what happens if someone goes, "I wonder if I can throw every bit of HTML I ever learned onto one site?"

It's very...busy. Which is a tactful way of saying "I stopped making websites that look like that when I was 16."

If they played "She Blinded Me With Science" every time I logged on, I might actually use it.

I have a myspace. And, fucking everyone is on there. I rarely post anything of interest if only because I don't want everyone I ever met to have detailed knowledge of my life.

I broke down and got a myspace account a couple of weeks ago, just so I could read Billy Corgans myseplace account.

I think the majority of the sparkly shit can be traced back to the fact that myspace is mostly inhabited by teenagers. livejournal desperately wants the sort of crowd myspace has, and is trying to court them.
