whiski_sour: (what the shit is this?)
I've downgraded to the plus account, which meant narrowing my icons down from 122 to 15. It was surprisingly easy once I got down to it, but I'm sure there are icons I'm going to miss and wish I kept. I tried to pick the ones that I used the most.

The icon I'm using for this entry, though, I kept for nostalgia reasons. It's the oldest icon in my collection, easily 10 years old (May 15 will be my 12th anniversary here). Remember when we had a limited number of icons and we used to do sets? I remember two sets I did. One was a Lost set done with the lyrics to "Only Tongue Can Tell" by the TrashCan Sinatras. The other was called handwriting because I wrote the captions on my hand. When sets went the way of the dodo, I kept this one because I liked it so well.

Only 15 icons. End of an era, I suppose.

This icon represents the best thing I did all day. I made Cubs icons.

Okay, technically Ted Lilly isn't a Cub anymore, but he is my favortest and him being a Dodger now won't change that, s'alright?

S'alright.

I made some new icons today, both for this journal and for [livejournal.com profile] kikiwrites. For the first time since I only had 15 icons, I've maxed out my icons. It won't stay that way, but for the moment, I'm feeling a little victorious.

I'm not done with icons just yet. There's still some I want to make, but I haven't found the right pics.

Speaking of pics, I did stumble upon something horrible while perusing through sitcomsonline's cache of Hawaii Five-O pictures: Gavin McLeod carrying a few extra pounds and wearing his shirt unbuttoned so that one might gaze upon his hairy manboobs. It was pretty horrifying. Ask [livejournal.com profile] one_more_cherry. She saw the pic, too.

Because I will not suffer alone.

I spent two hours working on the icons while sitting in front of an open window, which would have been fine had it not been chilly and raining. Close the window? Not an option. Clearly, you do not have cats.

I left the room in the middle of typing up this entry to find out that Pete posted it for me. See what I mean about having cats?

I think it's no secret that my TV viewing habits are decidedly retro. If it's been off the air at least ten years and repeats are plentiful, I'm inexplicably drawn to it. I've OD'd on reruns of M*A*S*H since junior high, I've watched the Golden Girls at least twice a day for a year now, and I acquired all five seasons of the A-Team just before TV Land stopped showing it.

My latest rerun addictions are Perry Mason, Hawaii 5-0, and Barney Miller.

I've flirted with Perry Mason before (enough that I have the theme song as a ringtone on my phone), but when choices had to be made, it got sacrificed. Well, it's back on at 1pm here in the cornfield. Hawaii 5-0 follows it. It was laziness that got me to watch Hawaii 5-0 and now I can't stop. The questionable taste in fashion, the pretty backdrops, the WTF storylines, and Jack Lord's hair have mixed together to form a kind of crack that I can't say no to.

And they're both on five days a week.

Now Barney Miller is only on Sunday nights, but they do show four episodes. It's one of those shows whose reruns haunted my childhood (it went off the air when I was two) and I know all of the characters and whatnot, but I don't actually remember the episodes specifically. At any rate, it makes me laugh so hard that Stella glares and growls from the next room.

Now, I'm telling you all of this because I don't have a real job or a real life and I got all of my writing work done very early this month, so that means I've got some time on my hands. And I've been meaning to make some new icons, but never really had the time.

Do you see where I'm going with this?

Yeah. Let's not be surprised if some blasts from the past in icon form show up.

I'm dangerous when I'm in possession of free time.

Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] jackiesjunkie. I hope it was a good one for you.

Speaking of birthdays, my first birthday card rolled in today. Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] luchalibrarian. I agree that the shortage of shark birthday cards is just scandelous and greeting card companies should get on the stick. Heh. The cupcake was sweet compensation, though.

In other news, my extra user icons are expiring next week (Monday, I think) and I'm trying to decide whether to keep them or let them go. On one hand, I probably don't need to add another ten bucks to my credit card just for pictures. On the other hand, going through my icons and deciding which ones I want to keep sounds like stressful work and I prefer to be mellowly lazy.

I don't know. Someone ask me on Sunday if I've made up my mind because I bet I'll forget about the whole thing before then anyway.

[livejournal.com profile] one_more_cherry supplied me with some awesome Ted Raimi icons because she is the best icon dealer ever.

In other news, Dad came home this afternoon with fixings for dinner.

Me: What did you get?
Dad: *putting things away* I figure to make cheese and broccoli soup, maybe throw some taters in there.
Me: Sounds good.
Dad: *starts to open one of two containers of roasted chicken* These c-h-i-c-k-e-n-s can be for dinner, too.
McGee: *jumps off of the back of the chair, races over to Dad, and starts meowing and pawing at him*
Me: Holy shit, she can spell.

For the record, Pete can also spell; she just chooses not to show off her superior intellect in front of such substandard bipeds.

Or at least, that's how I interpreted her disgruntled look at the time.

[livejournal.com profile] one_more_cherry is an awesome crack dealer. She sent me a whole bunch of fabulous Michael and Fiona icons, a few of which I customized.

She rules me. <3

[livejournal.com profile] one_more_cherry sent me a whole bunch of Sam and Maddy icons, so I've been playing with them, adding text and whatnot, and making a few of my own. Missy's like a crack dealer in a way.

Speaking of, Missy, let me know if you wouldn't mind doing a little more icon dirty work for me. *bats eyeslashes*

Also, if anyone knows a good place for NCIS screencaps, let me know. My skills in this area are weak and I'm coming up with some stuff, but not everything that I'm looking for.

I really probably could have put this day to better use.

[livejournal.com profile] one_more_cherry is made of awesome as she made me a bunch of Burn Notice icons. Well, a lot of Sam icons and a couple of Madeline, as she is very rare. They are fantastic and I can't thank her enough.

In other news, Stella fell out of the window.

Not really news in this house of grace-impaired cats, except Stella fell out of the window. Outside of the house out of the window.

She was laying in the kitchen window, her tubby butt pushed the screen out, and she fell out of the window.

One minute she's there, I hear a noise, turn to look, screen and cat are gone.

I ran outside in time to see Stella's head pop up out of the rubber plants.

I then laughed so hard that I couldn't catch her (Stella isn't allowed outside) and had to recruit some help to get her back in the house and Dad fixed the screen.

She has yet to get back in that window.

And I have yet to quit giggling.

She's going to murder me in my sleep.

I was in the mood to make a few icons tonight, but the screencaps I found (Castle and NCIS...go be surprised in a corner) weren't the pictures I wanted.

I did find some good NCIS bases for future use, though.

So to placate myself on my loss, I uploaded a couple of NCIS icons that I made a while ago and I guess forgot about. Surprise! Look what's on your harddrive! It's Ziva and McGee!

I'll just continue my screencap search this weekend. It'll give me something more constructive yet equally timewasting to playing endless trivia challenges on Facebook.

Icon meme

I don't want to talk about how my body and my brain are fighting with each other like two characters in a Jet Li move going at it to settle a vendetta. So, here, have a meme instead...

I'm making you work for the icons )
whiski_sour: (happy new year bitches)
McGee has gotten into a new habit. When I get on the computer at night, she deems it time to have lap petting. Which is fine and dandy and cute.

But not good for the typing. She's nudging my hands right now for petting. Oh, the typos.

And forget about getting up for anything, like going to the bathroom. I mean, I could go to the bathroom as far as she's concerned, but I must leave my lap where it is.

I usually make her get down once she starts taking a bath, though. Her baths are epic and I don't like having wet pants.

In other news, I changed my default icon in order to wish everyone a happy new year.

Oh, alright McGee! Let me post this and I will pet you!
whiski_sour: (this just in)
So I says to my self, "Self," I says, "after Nano, you should make yourself some new icons."

For once, I listened to myself and made myself some new icons. All NCIS, but no Ducky. I've yet to find a good icon pic of Ducky. Or, at least, a pic of him I want to icon.

Instead, I settled for two McGees, one Abby, and one Gibbs.

I'm still on a quest for Sanctuary screencaps suitable for iconing, particularly Henry, Bigfoot, and Two Face Guy.

Also, please note...I've changed my default icon to my holiday icon for the month. I've used it for several years. It's the neon effect that really sells it for me.
