"Did you say Abe Lincoln?"

The latest estimated ship date on my new laptop is July 6 (my sister's birthday). My mother is going to get tired of seeing me at this rate. Let's hope that I get surprised and it comes in sooner.
Last weekend, my little town celebrated its 175th anniversary. They've actually being prepping for this for a couple of years and there was a lot of stuff that went on uptown and at the C.H. Moore Homestead (including an old fashioned baseball game). Lots of period costumes and performers and history lessons and whatnot.
On Saturday, they held a parade. I know this will mean nothing to anyone who doesn't live here, but it started at the old junior high grounds, went around the square, came down Center street, and ended...in front of my house. It was kind of cool. Not all of the floats came down the street (the turn was too narrow), but we got to see a lot of it from the front porch. It was a little surreal to see Abe Lincoln and his wife in a horse drawn carriage go down my street. I wish I could have been a little quicker; I would have gotten pictures. It was kind of neat.
If you're wondering what Abe Lincoln has to do with my little town, it's not just because I live in the middle of Illinois. He actully practiced law here for a short time before he went on to be president and get assissinaed. He gave his "You can fool the people" speech on our square.
He was like the rockstar of my town back in the day.
I wasn't able to fill out the online application the last time I was here at Mom's because I didn't have all of my information with me. Unfortunately, it's been too much time since I got my first job and I've had too many in between to keep all of that info in my head. I planned on filling it out today and not worry too much. If they accepted it, they accepted it. If they didn't, no sweat.
Well, early this morning I had a not so happy dream about working in a bank with my old friend Janel (with whom I really did work at a credit union) and ended up being woke up by the phone ringing. It was the bank calling about the application that I hadn't filled out yet. I apologized and told her about my difficulties (a condensed, one sentence version) and that I was planning on filling it out today. She was very nice and understanding.
Then she asked if I could come in for an interview today. Well, I couldn't because I had plans (mostly coming up to Mom's to play catch up). She said that was fine, told me to go ahead and fill out the application and we'll schedule for another time.
So, that's something to look forward to. I plan on apologizing again for all the difficulties. My life usually isn't so complicated and uncooperative.
I guess all of that hoop jumping might work out after all.
Other than that, things have been pretty mellow. I've been catching up on a lot of my reading because I don't have the Internet to eat up my time. Which I suppose isn't a bad thing. I like reading. I also like the Internet eating up my time. Sooo...ya know.
I just can't wait to be back in the loop again. I miss you guys!
