I have my own phone!
Jan. 24th, 2011 08:25 pmThe first day on the job went pretty well. I really didn't do much, but you hardly ever do on the first day.
If you're not following my on Twitter or have me friended on Facebook, here's a quick summary of my job: I'm an Operations Assistant at a transportation company. The headquarters is in Bloomington, but my office is here town at the metal plant we transport for. While we work with the metal company's employees, too, the office for my company consists of three people: me, Chad, and Albert.
Chad and Albert handle the heavy lifting, so to speak. My job so far just consists of calling the companies we ship to in order to let them know when to expect their deliveries. There'll be other things I'll do, but that's the main thing for now.
It's a much different job from what I've had in the past, at least in the sense of the company. I don't clock in; I do a timesheet. I've never done that before. I can take a half-hour lunch or an hour lunch, just so long as I get my eight hours in for the day. Which means I go to work at 8 and can get off at either 4:30 or 5.
I have a cubicle! I can decorate it! I am way too excited about putting stuff on my desk!
This job just feels a little higher end than my previous jobs.
It's clearly the cubicle that's gone to my head.
And, the guys I work with are going to make the stressful days survivable. First of all, they're Bears fans. Secondly, they're funny guys. That's always a bonus.
If the first day is any indication, I think I'm going to get along with this job.
