For those of you playing the home game, it's no secret that I'm a big Monkees fan. So it's understandable that my heart stopped for just a second when I read that Peter Tork has cancer. His prognosis is good, but still, heart flutters.
If there's any doubt that I'm not a cool kid, I can dispell it right here. The Monkees are my favorite band and probably had (and has) the most influence on my life. They are my go to guys. Meeting Micky Dolenz at DragonCon last year was a mellow, mind-stopping, speech robbing experience on the religious level. I don't even want to get into the slow accumulation of memorabilia I've collected over the years, but I could build one hell of a shrine if I was so inclined. They are my go to guys and have been since I was six. They hold a special place in my heart.
And that's the place that fluttere and gave me the vapors today. Not the screaming-crying-fangirl vapors, but the I-feel-so-ridiculous-for-being-this-emotionally-involved-but-still-OH-NOES vapors.
In spookier news, I think iTunes felt the tremor in the 60's pop force. It's been playing the Monkees on heavy rotation in the shuffle the past few days.
It's like it knows, man. It knows.
