Sometimes an alien is just an alien

I finished reading The Horror Film (Inside Film) by Peter Hutchings yesterday. It was a very interesting read in the sense that it made me look at horror films from a different angle. I never thought much about applying or trying to apply too much deep meaning to horror movies. Things are creepy, people die, sometimes I'm scared, and lots of times I get the giggles. Simple, no?
No.
There's stuff people see in those movies that I definitely don't. After reading the book, I could see where people could come away with some of their interpretations. And then there were a few that left me going, "uhhh...huh...umm...just...what?"
I didn't realize that much thought could be wrought from a mindless slasher.
So my need-to-read pile is slowly shrinking. I'm still working my way through Stephen King's Nightmares and Dreamscapes and I've still got Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Moonlight by Dean Koontz (which I've read before when I borrowed if off my mom, but this is MY copy, so I must break it in), and And Then We Went Fishing by Dirk Benedict.
If I can get through those, I won't feel guilty about buying more books.
